The Prospective Marriage (subclass 300) visa allows the fiancé of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter Australia to marry their partner and subsequently apply for a Partner Visa.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Prospective Marriage (subclass 300) visa, you must:

  • Be engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Intend to marry your partner within the visa validity period
  • Have met your partner in person and know them personally
  • Be outside Australia when you apply for the visa
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Allows you to enter Australia and marry your partner
  • Valid for up to 9 months from the date of grant
  • You can apply for a Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801) after marriage
  • You may work and study in Australia during the visa validity period

Your partner must lodge a sponsorship application and provide evidence of their eligibility. Sponsors must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Be aged 18 years or older
  • Meet character requirements
  • Not have previously sponsored more than 1 partners unless exceptional circumstances apply
  • Apply Online: Lodge your application through ImmiAccount while outside Australia
  • Provide Evidence: Submit documents proving your intended marriage and relationship, such as photos, communication records, and statements
  • Sponsor Application: Your partner must submit a sponsorship application and provide supporting documents
  • Wait for Processing: Remain outside Australia while the visa is being processed
