Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the Prospective Marriage (subclass 300) visa, you must:
- Be engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Intend to marry your partner within the visa validity period
- Have met your partner in person and know them personally
- Be outside Australia when you apply for the visa
- Meet health and character requirements
Subclass 300 visa features
- Allows you to enter Australia and marry your partner
- Valid for up to 9 months from the date of grant
- You can apply for a Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801) after marriage
- You may work and study in Australia during the visa validity period
Sponsorship
Your partner must lodge a sponsorship application and provide evidence of their eligibility. Sponsors must:
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Be aged 18 years or older
- Meet character requirements
- Not have previously sponsored more than 1 partners unless exceptional circumstances apply
